Presumably, because they can't afford to buy another one in time for Christmas. Which means that either Ryan2501, thinks that the compensation won't arrive in time. Or it wasn't sent SD.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Which one of you....
I'm gonna be totally honest and fess up to my own STUPIDITY I sent it 1st class recorded THINKING (stupidly) that it meant it was RECORDED like in the same so couldn't be misplaced...turns out the only recorded bit of the whole process was me sending it, and the cctv recording of my unhappy mug being told it was my fault.
Ive heard from time to time that the clerk should ask the value of the item, he didnt ask me this time. I dont know if this is true.
I take FULL responsibility that I under insured it. BUT how can a company claim to just lose my 5.5kg massive box...and then just wipe their hands clean? I cannot begin to tell you all the stress this put me through. I had to sell it and was relying HEAVILY on that money, had to refund the guy on ebay.
So I can get £38 compensation.......this was November time and no chance in hell I will be insulted to take £38 for this massive cockup. I just havent used Royal Mail since which has probably lost them £100+...but what do they care, just sitting about playing my PS3.
SORRY for my moan I had forgotten about it at around May time but I thought of this place and it all came flooding back to me. It's disgusting that someone can just getaway with stealing something of mine. Also like a f****** idiot I didnt put a returns address BUT the destination address was printed out by computer, confirmed by the clerk and very clear to read, so I think it probably was stolen.

Re: Which one of you....
i think you are probably right it was stolen.
.....but if you recall around November last year we were in the middle of industrial action and had 15,000-30,000 strike breaking casuals working for the company at the time.
No-one can say for definite that it was one of those that stole the PS3 but there were many cases in my area alone where they were caught stealing from a temporary mailcentre set up just to deal with parcels like yours.

Re: Which one of you....
Sorry I got another little theory, is it plausible/likely that it WAS delivered but the tracking info wasnt updated so the guy on ebay saw an opertunity and lied to me saying he hadnt received it?

It's possible...it happens, but the question would be why the tracking info didn't show.Ryan2501 wrote:Sorry I got another little theory, is it plausible/likely that it WAS delivered but the tracking info wasnt updated so the guy on ebay saw an opertunity and lied to me saying he hadnt received it?
Something that big would have to be delivered by a van with a PDA which sends the information automatically....unless it was broken.
The only other explanation would be if for some reason the postman didn't obtain a signature perhaps if the RD sticker had become detached from the parcel.

Re: Which one of you....
Sorry for not making things clear, it wasn't the fact that I didnt have a PS3 that stressed me out, I was selling it anyway and to be honest it was a blessing in disguise as I stopped playing PS3 (obviously) for about 7 months which can only be a good thing, it was losing the money and being in such a helpless position not even being able to clearly say whose fault it was or where it went...nothing...and nobody taking responsibility for which is effectively a theft, nobody to ask for assistance..nothing.
I will always remain bitter to the RM and sorry for all the ranting but once I started thinking about it again all the anger and stress came right back to me. I have long accepted my money is gone but you know................. :(

The world is a s**t hole Ryan and it's full of thieves and dishonest people.
But not everyone is,and that includes those who work for Royal Mail.

Re: Which one of you....
RM has a few thieving buggers working for them, yes. However, the consequences of us stealing anything from work are much more than anyone else borrowing things on a permanent basis from their employers/customers. Much more of a deterrent to any idiot thinking they can get away with it. It's also an incredibly low percentage given the amount of people working for RM. Some of them are agency staff and therefore, not technically RM employees.POSTMAN wrote:The world is a s**t hole Ryan and it's full of thieves and dishonest people.

And unfortunately, even computer printed labels can become detached/damaged/unreadable so there's a chance it went to RLB to be opened. It's also a chance that the guy did receive it and decided to try it on knowing he hadn't signed for it.
I've emptied my container or parcels in my van before now and found a sticker that should've been attached to a parcel requiring a signature but I've no idea to which parcel it now belongs. I can't mark it as delivered as I don't know if it's even in my van or not and I'm not being held liable for it if it goes to an investigation as I know RM will just hand me my P45 (which they're very quick to do for anything these days, nevermind theft).

Re: Which one of you....
Sadly, the only way to get anything beyond a book of Stamps as compensation, is to use Special Delivery (SD). I can understand you being bitter. But there are very few thieves in RM, and if anything is reported as stolen to nestigations Branch (IB). They launch an inquiry. Which although it often takes several months (incuding the sting operation), they do get their man/woman. But because of when it went missing/was stolen, there's little chance of knowing who to keep an eye on, because of the large number of Agency Staff. So it's unlikley they'd be able to do anything this time. Although if you want to, there's nothing to stop you trying anyway. You never know, you might get lucky.Ryan2501 wrote:Sorry for not making things clear, it wasn't the fact that I didnt have a PS3 that stressed me out, I was selling it anyway and to be honest it was a blessing in disguise as I stopped playing PS3 (obviously) for about 7 months which can only be a good thing, it was losing the money and being in such a helpless position not even being able to clearly say whose fault it was or where it went...nothing...and nobody taking responsibility for which is effectively a theft, nobody to ask for assistance..nothing.

I know that the Press often gives the impression that we're dishonest. But that's because if and when a thief is caught, IB makes sure that they're named and shamed. Whereas most companies try to hide that type of thing, for the sake of their reputations. You only need to look through the News setion on here, for cases where thieves have been caught, to see how we feel about them. Or to save you time: They're considered to be beneath contempt!

Who would pay over £400 for a second hand PS3 when a new one costs £250-280?

He bought the PS3 new...when the top of the range one was £400.
He then sold it on ebay....that's when it went missing and he had to refund the buyer.
So....he's £400 down from the original purchase price.
