Yes, you can pay RM a couple of thousand pounds a year to get your mail delivered earlier... Timed deliveries. OR, you can ask to collect your mail from the delivery office. If you want an earlier collection than 8am (I think it used to be anyway), you can pay RM some more money.

Great eh?
Thanks for the response :Very Happy

Hmm... might look into collecting the mail in that case. It's not too far out of the way and might stop our boss from chuntering for a bit.

aww thnx for the lovely post. I'm sure if ure reg postie seen it he would be thrilled. So nice to have some good comments along with the not so good. Give customer service a call, they should be able to set up a call and collect for your company. Used to be able to do it locally, but that's all been stopped now unfortunately

That would be because we're not allowed to have minds of our own anymore... And so Sales can contact businesses and offer them more products and services.

You bring us our mail at work with a cheery smile and wisecrack. We all love you in our office, even though we don't know your name.

In all weathers, you cheer us up about something-or-another and we look forward to the golden hour of 10.30 - 11.30 when you usually show up.

We don't like it when you're not breezing in the office (like this week, apparently due to some kind of summer slowdown and shift change and we don't get out mail until the afternoon. :( )

Anyway, we miss you, and here's lots of love to all you posties. Often bitched and moaned at, it's about time some of us customers told you how much we appreciate you because, if the news is to believed, your job is sometimes kinda sucky and the bureaucrats don't see you as people who provide a great service, just expenditure.

So yay for posties everywhere. :D
will you marry me?

:D

Thanks guys. 2pm delivery today... the lovely new postie (who is fast healing our hearts of losing mr Postman) recommended that we lodge a complaint with the sorting office but to not hold our breath about anything being done. It is really frustrating, because we rely heavily on business mail and the majority of our fees are paid by cheque.

Would it get the posties into trouble if we lodged a complaint and are we really wasting our time?

No, you wouldn't get him into trouble, if you included the fact that this has been going on since before he started doing that round. But you're more than likley going to achieve nothing by it. Because there has been a deliberate move to later deliveries for a few years now (it was one of the reasons for the last 2 Strikes, as most Posties oppose it). But it's still worth a try. You never know, you might get lucky, and have something done about it. Just don't get your hopes up too high.

I think it would be a waste of your breath I'm afraid.

Unless you kicked up such a fuss every day with the Manager that they gave in to stop you pestering them? However, that's not guaranteed and may go the other way...

They'll just suggest the "Pay us lots of money" route.

You're absolutely spot on, Aprilaydee. My boss received an email response to his online complaint. Basically went along the lines of:

- Sorry you're not happy.
- You can use Timed Delivery if you want, call our Sales Team.
- You can collect it yourself if you want, here's the web link.
- We're trying to be consistent, this includes planning delivery rounds as efficiently as possible. This means our post people might have longer rounds and therefore your mail will be delivered late.
- We operate within our licence, so we're not doing anything wrong
- There's no further action we can take, so sod off unless you want to pay for Timed Delivery.

Our adorable new postie is being a superstar though, and bringing us our mail first thing if it's ready for him to deliver. Says a lot when a single employee is more conscientious of customer care than the organisation as a whole!!

Sadly, that's the way the business is going at the moment. There are many Posties who take customer service very seriously, and always do their best to provide the service that everyone deserves. But the "higher ups" are only concerned with profits. It seems to be a loosing battle. But not one that we intend to give up on.

It's nice to know that posties still intend to plug away, Andy.

It seems that the "higher ups" are so short sighted they don't realise that (a) they're alienating their employees and (b) alienating the customers, which won't do their profits any good in the long run, however 'efficient' (or an attractive proposition for privatisation) they try to be.

They think customers in the market are stupid and don't realise the game plan.

Says a lot when a single employee is more conscientious of customer care than the organisation as a whole!!
You will find a lot of us are,for instance when i had a redelivery of a packet, the customer told me the day before he had asked for it to be redelivered but that he had to go to work at a certain time.
Simple,i done my round a different way that day and got to him earlier than normal.

We do a lot of favours for customers or we go out of our way a lot,but RM don't really see what we do,just the balance sheet.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Why a man can't win
If you put a woman on a pedestal and try to protect her from the rat race, you are a male chauvinist.
If you stay home and do the housework, you are a pansy

If you work too hard, there is never any time for her..
If you don't work enough, you are a good for nothing bum.

If she has a boring repetitive job with low pay, this is exploitation.
If you have a boring repetitive job with low pay, you should get off your rear and find something better.

If you get a promotion ahead of her, that is favoritism.
If she gets job ahead of you, it's equal opportunity.

If you mention how nice she looks, it's sexual harassment.
If you keep quiet, it's male indifference.

If you cry, you are a wimp.
If you don't, you are an insensitive bastard.

If you make a decision without consulting her, you are a chauvinist.
If she makes a decision without consulting you, she's liberated woman.

If you ask her to do something she doesn't enjoy, that's domination.
If she asks you, it's a favor.

If you appreciate the female form and frilly underwear, you are a pervert.
If you don't, you are a fag.

If you like a woman to shave her legs and keep in shape, you are a sexist.
If you don't, you are unromantic.

If you try to keep yourself in shape, you are vain.
If you don't, you are a slob.

If you buy her flowers, you are after something.
If you don't, you are not thoughtful.

If you are proud of your achievements, you are up yourself.
If you don't, you are not ambitious.

If she has a headache, she is tired.
If you have a headache, you don't love her anymore.

If you want it too often, you are oversexed.
If you don't, there must be someone else.
