Hi I have an interview for a temporary postie job this week.

The money is really good but im trying to get a feel for it. Is it a doddle or a nightmare? Im not the fittest by any means and wonder how much actual walking is involved daily? I must admit bad rain and snow would be difficult.

Its 6 days a week. Would anybody know roughly the hours? If you dont finish your mail in time what happens and if you get finished way before finishing time how does it work? Are boots provided?

Im hearing all kinds of things and this place seems a good place for some answers!

It's impossible to give you specific information because every office is different and I've worked in many.

Some general points tho:

The money may seem good initially but I was amazed at how my food bill shot up immediately. I quickly began eating double the calories I did previously. My wife was initially embarrassed when I'd order 2 main meals at a restaurant but it's become quite normal now!

It's not a doddle but those who have done it a long time make it look incredibly easy. It takes quite a long time to get anywhere near that usually.

I would expect to walk in the region of 8 to 12 miles a day depending on the duty covered.

If you have a problem with being out in rain and snow then please reconsider doing this job. That's like a pig farmer who can't stand bad smells.

Every office has different hours of attendance but typically a full time postman's day would be somewhere in the region of 7am to 3pm.

If you can't complete, there is sadly often a great deal of pressure to cut corners or to just keep on plodding on until it's finally done. Again this depends on the office.

Finishing way before time? Lol. Should that happen by some weird chance then you would usually be given enough extra work to fill your hours. I wouldn't worry about that one if I were you.

Uniform is provided, but only after you've been there a while. Until then you're usually just given a hi-viz vest to put over your own clothes.

What a great interview!

Money was £1.09 LESS an hour than told! Hours not guaranteed so it was effectively a zero hour contract. Talk about totally misled from what i was told.

They said you could turn up and if it wasnt a busy day you would be sent home. Its incredible they can get away with that. I know people are desperate but that is going way over the score.

Needless to say in total disgust i just left it.
