How Does the Waiting List Work

Post by Raggedy Man »

Hi All,

First post to the forum although I've been lurking and reading it for a long time now.

I recently had a job interview for postman and whilst not successful I was placed on the waiting list. Can anyone tell me the criteria they use to move candidates from the waiting list to a job offer. I'm lucky enough to have had jobs at a few locations around my home town come up since been told that I'm a waiting list candidate. But despite applying for three positions I have been unsuccessful with each waiting list application I've made and remain on the waiting list.

Am I doing something wrong ? Is this peoples normal experience ? TBH after the initial excitement of been placed on the waiting list I'm now starting to feel that I'm no nearer to gaining employment than when I first set up a profile with RM Careers.

Feeling the need for some motivational talk people :nana

I passed my interview but was initially told I was unsuccessful and put on the waiting list. A week later I got a call offering me the same job (not sure if they were recruiting new positions or the original candidate withdrew). Having read a few posts around this I think you need to persevere as outcome depends on different factors for each vacancy. This was my 3rd application in 2 years and I initially felt like giving up when I got the 3rd rejection but, touch wood, I will soon be starting (still going through security checks at mo). The other thing if you are applying for jobs while on waiting list is to use the link provided in your waiting list email (not via RM Jobs page directly) as this ensures that your application is flagged as a waiting list candidate.

How long's a piece of string is the answer I'm afraid.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
