I currently live in Christchurch, Dorset and I REALLY want to work as a postman, however after two months of watching the job offers nothing has come up in my area. I wouldn't mind relocating to pretty much anywhere in England, but there seem to be a few issues with that, that I want to ask about.
First and most obvious, how much of a problem does not being familiar with the area of your rounds create?
Second, there is a section on the application that asks you to provide them with the address to which you plan to relocate, but if your like me and want to find work first and then find a place to live that's close to work, instead of finding work close to where you live; then that question doesn't really make sense. Should I give them a possible address or just tell them that I'm going to find a place to live, in their area, after I know I've been accepted.
I searched the whole new starters forum section, but haven't found anything on this and I'm really confused. Please HELP!

Relocation in This Company??? How does it work???
Can't really speak for round familiarity but I would have to say - don't go getting a job 50 miles away and bet on finding a place there because it'll be weeks/months before you're through the checks and you'll have to seriously think on your living arrangements; do you move before final acceptance and start date in which case you have bills etc at the new place based on a job you may not be certain to have? Do you move after and risk it taking months to find somewhere suitable in which time you're paying for a 100 mile round trip a day? Can you seriously afford that on a o doubt contracted part time job? Do you apply for multiple jobs in different areas, tell them all the same story and take your chances?littlepostman wrote:I currently live in Christchurch, Dorset and I REALLY want to work as a postman, however after two months of watching the job offers nothing has come up in my area. Re: Relocation in This Company??? How does it work???
I know this post is years old
But... can anyone tell me where someone who is already a postman can track jobs in other areas please
I'm sure I've seen a royal mail website you can set alerts up on.
We want to move from Manchester to Norfolk
My hubby still has 2 years to do before retirement but would like to do this in Great Yarmouth or local towns
Thanks

Ha ha
Yeah hubby just retired but trying to find out why he didn't get paid for the week he worked prior to retiring
RM are saying he isn't due a wage surely that's wrong ?
So he recently retired and we made the move to Norfolk
He worked 20+ years and just had to.pay to get our mail redirected

If you are saying he didn't get paid the week after retiring that is correct as we are paid up to date not in Lieu etc, if you are saying he didn't get paid on the Friday of his very last week then that is wrong but I'm assuming it's the former.janeandy wrote: ↑08 Mar 2025, 11:12Ha ha
