A little advice please...

Post by klemo »

Hi,
I'd like a little advice please....

I received an offer for a full time 39 hour per week 6 month
fixed term job as a postman with driving.
Brilliant news!!!!
I would be taking a large pay cut from my current job but I
would be working a lot closer to home.
I handed in my notice (4 weeks) and confirmed that I was able
to attend my induction at the beginning of January.
I received a call yesterday informing me that the manager had
reviewed his current staffing needs.
There is no longer a full time position available for me but there
is a part time 25 hour per week position.
Absolutely gutted!!
To be honest I couldn't beleive my ears!!!

I am now in a very awkward situation. The initial pay cut I was
willing to take was significant but manageable but only working
25 hours is not.

Would I be able to make up the hours with regular overtime?

Probably but its not guaranteed, also most if not all would be outside delivery work and most probably mostly walking. If you are very fit it would be possible to do 6 hours plus walking, but it would take its toll. If you are office based now, it will be a shock to the body and I would expect most new posties to take 6 weeks to 3 months to get used to the physicality of the work.
