I have recently been offered a job with Royal Mail, I have my induction date for 25th November and I start my job the day after.
My partner is expecting a baby around 16th December and I'm unsure about what my rights are. Can anyone help?

Employees must:
have worked for you continuously for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth (known as the ‘qualifying week’)
I also used the Paternity calculator on that site and it said
they must have started working for you on or before 16 March 2013

Would they not let me attend the birth if it was in works time?

I would give them a heads up when you start they may be able to give you 1 days special leave, but it will probably be unpaid.Pbradshaw wrote:Would they not let me attend the birth if it was in works time?
Hopefully you told them at the interview as it will make a case for unpaid leave a lot stronger.
