Re: Passed security checks
Well done. If the application process is similar to last year, it is very bad - everything by email and no real information. I wasn't happy about emailing my bank details, but you have no other chioce. I'm not a million miles from you, but I won't say where.
I went to Croydon last September and no one told me beforehand that the following day would be my first in the delivery office! You can park at Croydon Mail Centre if your name is on the list of those attending (it should be). Don't expect indepth training, its mainly sitting and watching a video and talking in a group type stuff. You will get to pick up a pouch and push a York round in a circle though. When you get to the delivery office make sure that they will be actioning your pay from the day at Croydon, and probably paying overtime for it as well.
Based on my experience you won't get much indepth training on the job either! Wear similar clothes for the training day and for your first day at the job, and take a few pens with you to both.

Re: Passed security checks
Thanks for the info fb1969 sounds like we both had similar experiences, ie no phone contact - all done via email.fb1969 wrote:Well done. I hope they make induction day interesting - but I imagine its going to be similar to how you experienced it.
As for 1st day in job proper I hope to get a good mentor and again thanks for the tip regarding pen and paper.
Will let you know how it went.
Cheers

Re: Passed security checks
The day at Croydon was ok, but don't expect to learn much about doing the actual job. You'll probably get basic H+S, info about the RM as a company, security of the mail and stuff like that. You'll need some cash for the canteen too.
I hope you get a good workplace coach, as it is called - not some moody bloke who half the time does little more than a grunt when you speak to him, and who hasn't given me any input since the Christmas period!!! I have picked up a lot of help from 2 or 3 other posties though, so there should always be someone around to ask. Plus of course there is plenty of advice out there on this forum.
I had three days on the walk with the coach, each day doing a little bit more of the job, and then out by myself. Apart from a couple of days learning two new walks I have been on my own ever since. Be prepared for everyone speaking in a strange language to start with, though you've probably found some good info on here, frames/door-to-doors/Yorks/re-dies/kill off/739s etc etc. Be sure to take common sense and a sense of humour with you as well. And as a tip when you are delivering by yourself, always have two pens on you rather than just one!

Re: Passed security checks
I'm sure I just give my bank details during my induction.
But the induction itself is just the basic common sense H&S videos. Put into teams of two/three to do some quick discussions and all had to think of a question each at end of each section.
It didn't really prepare me for the job itself and I still didnt know what to expect the following day ha.
The coaching all comes down to whether the person coaching you does it properly, some will rush it and some will take their time with you. Expect to be on your own after the 3rd day walking i'd say :)
Enjoy it though!

Thanks gazzaspans for the info, was wondering about pay - is it just hourly or is there a bonus?gazzaspans wrote:I'm sure I just give my bank details during my induction.

Re: Passed security checks
Pay is hourly, paid at the end of the week you have just worked, for part timers it is pro-rata the full time rate. When I applied I missed that the advert mentioned a "delivery suppliment" and I also get something like a local area addition - it all adds to over £1.50 more per hour than I expected. Everything you read will say no uniform for 3 months, but if you ask the right people you should get some things through.
Croydon gave me something like a training programme to be completed over the first six months as I was taught things, and the staff there completed the first item on the day. No one at the DO has ever asked for it, and it still just has the first line completed.

Thanks for the info fb1969 - I did read about the delivery supplement so good to hear the wages go in the end if week worked - I am so used to monthly pay.fb1969 wrote:Pay is hourly, paid at the end of the week you have just worked, for part timers it is pro-rata the full time rate. I rang the uniform ordering number and was told to ring after 2nd day - need pay number for this as well - is that the same number as the ID number I have been given??
Regarding training and induction I think it will be hit and miss - I just hope I get a nice mentor to take "the puppy for a walk"
Thanks again guys - do appreciate your help

Re: Passed security checks
Uniform depends on your manager to be honest.
I've been with mine now since November and still awaiting uniform, all i have at the moment is the red jacket and a coat. Still awaiting shoes, trousers, shirts etc.
