More security checks?

Post by Barbel »

Hi there, passed online tests, interview and security checks in October. I had an email on 8th of October informing me I'm on a 3 month waiting list. This morning (18th Dec) I had a phone call from RM recruitment asking me if I'm still interested as a position has become available as postie and occasional driving, the same position I applied for back in September. I confirmed yes I am still interested, she asked me a few questions then said that I'm now subject to a security check and that I've definitely got the job and will be offered a start date as long as I pass and that she will email me or call me later on today to let me know. Now are these the same security checks I passed back in October or different ones? I really want to get excited but I'm just wondering what they're checking now (not that I have anything to hide!) when they did it all just a couple of months ago and I passed. It would be the best Xmas present ever getting this job as I've waited for months for it, I just hope everything comes back ok again. :Very Happy

Maybe they have forgotten that they have already done security checks or Maybe they didn't complete them fully the first time. I wish you luck.

My advice for newbies (being a newbie myself!!) is to join the union on your first day, don't believe a word the managers tell you (they will lie to newbies like nothing else!) and take advice from fellow posties and people on here (you will get the truth that way!)

My last piece of advice is keep looking for other jobs. I have applied for 4 this week alone as I can't cope with the bullying and lies from managers. But it's always easier and less stressful to look for a job whilst in a job.

Thanks, hopefully I'll hear something back very soon. Maybe they have forgotten or just doing the same checks again to make sure there's been no changes since October.

What do you mean the managers lie and bully you, in what way? That doesn't sound good.

I have been applying for jobs the whole time, been for loads of interviews but been unsuccessful, I'm waiting to hear back from an interview I had last week but with 70 people applying for the job I doubt I stand a chance. To be honest, working at RM is all I'm really interested in doing and I've been trying to get in for a few years without any luck. This is the furthest I've ever got and I really hope I make it over the last hurdle. :chuckle

Well I've just received an email saying that security checks are in process and this could take 2 weeks or longer  I was hoping I'd hear something before Xmas but never mind I'l just have to be patient. I also have to have my picture taken and email it to them in the next 7 days for my ID badge. :Very Happy

I'm in the same position...I passed my interview and was given a conditional offer on Monday. Today I had someone from RM phone to let me know security checks had started and to email a photo. He said I should hear between 10 and 14 days.

FWIW - I was originally planning to work as a Christmas casual (through Manpower Employment Agency) and I had to fill in a separate RM form for security checks. Manpower said they would be looking for more casuals at Easter, but RM would need an updated security check...so I'm guessing it's only valid for a month or so.

Ah right well that explains it then. I wasn't aware they only lasted a month but It makes sense as anything could happen in that time. I have just emailed my picture in and I'm hoping it's big enough. Just got to wait now though the anticipation and excitement is killing me! I must have checked my inbox 10 times today already lol..Let me know how you get on and what date you start. Good luck and Merry Christmas! :Very Happy

Thanks and good luck to you as well and I'll let you know of any further progress! I found out from the RM guy that my nearest induction centre will be 50 miles away...but it's a paid day.

I'm really hoping things are not like what thefemalepostie describes in my office. I just want to do my job and go home and stay out of the politics. If we're on a 3 month contract then I guess you have to keep your mouth shut anyway!

Merry Christmas. :Very Happy

Thank you Whizz! I've just checked into my RM account and it says Status: Security checks passed :nana I've not had an email from them yet though informing me so hopefully I'll get one soon with my start date. I'm so excited it's the best Christmas present I could ask for! I will also have to travel about 50 miles for my induction day so I'm pleased to hear that we'll get paid for it. :Very Happy Like you, I will be staying out of any politics and will just get on with my job, I had enough of that in my old job and glad to get out. Hope you hear something back soon!

Yay that's good news, well done Whizz! I'm still waiting to hear but I'm guessing with the Christmas period it may not be until the new year. The woman I spoke at the recruitment office said the start date may not be until mid January or even later. I don't mind too much though as it gives me time to get over all the Christmas excesses! :Very Happy
