Hi there folks.
First of all a big thank you for all the great advice on this forum. Been reading from the pre application stage.
I've got my induction on Monday and can't wait. Just need to clean my walking boots up so i have suitable footwear for the Tuesday.
I think I'm starting at the best time of the year, a nice gentle introduction ;)
Had an adventure applying - job I wanted disappeared on the day I went to submit, was well and truly gutted but thankfully one of the others re appeared for a day or two so I got it in then. Been offered a permanent 40 hour contract which seems to be hens teeth south of us.
I've worked outside all my life and since leaving uni I've been working for the council picking up litter etc so already covering miles each day.
Cheers for now

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi Postman.
I may nievely be believing the advert as it did say Permanent - contract is along similar lines. I've heard of folks on the mainland being on hourly contracts. 3 months would be bad enough
This is of course subject to the 6 month trial period etc. I'll certainly find out soon enough.
Lets just hope its not chucking it down on tuesday as my jacket certainly isnt lightweight. Cant wait!

Re: Hi all, starting Monday.
I had an absolutely fantastic induction day today.
Quick session going over the videos etc then it was onto sorting the mail in the frames, learning the processes etc. Headed out with the coach after lunch for the afternoon's delivery. I'm on a van delivery route so its - van, park walk the loop then drive to next bit. Plenty of packets and practice writing out the p739's. The Rest of the afternoon was spent loading part of the frame with D2D's for tomorrow. Looking forward to tomorrow and getting a full day in. I even got trousers and a long sleeved shirt. I'm glad I looked the part.
