Re: Induction tomorrow and starting Saturday
The induction day is a full day I believe.
I think you will be watching Health and Safety videos, being told about basic personal security (dogs etc) and security of the mail etc.
The first day in your new office you should simply be shadowing a workplace coach or an experienced postman on their duty.
There are threads on this board for new posties to give you an idea of what to expect.
The answers to your other questions will depend on your office.
Overtime may be available if the office is understaffed or has a high level of sickness. It obviously can't be guaranteed.
The more willing/flexible you appear the more likely you are to be asked. However it might be a good idea to get used to the basic job before volunteering for more.
Many offices in Glasgow are currently undergoing revision activity. As a result of this your employment may be more or less secure. It depends.
I don't know of any fixed term contracts who have had their contracts terminated, but if work was no longer available in the DO you are starting in, it may be available in neighbouring offices.

Round up the usual suspects.

You should also get a presentation from a union rep and be given forms to join.

Re: Induction tomorrow and starting Saturday
Hello and welcome. I started last week in kent on a 25 hour pw contract. I have been working 7 until 2 every day and the same again on sat so I will have done 42 hours. Not bad for part time. If you like being out doors and walking you will love this job like I do. Don't listen to the old school moaning about the good old days and how much work they have to do now. It's really not that hard but it is physically demanding and I need to get fit so this job is perfect for me. Good luck.

At a whole 42 hours in i would be keeping my own counsel about how hard i thought the job is/isn't.sotac464 wrote:Don't listen to the old school moaning about the good old days and how much work they have to do now. It's really not that hard.
And for the OP...how it's supposed to happen-ish.
