Hi everyone, I've just got a 25 hour contract for 6 months delivering at my local branch. My induction day is this coming Monday and I start working on the Tuesday. I'm a bit nervous about the first day at the actual branch - does this usually entail being shown how the mail is sorted and then being taken on a round?
Simon.

Yes - The actual process seems different to each office but normally you will get a trainer that shows you the basics of your role, for a 25 hour you may be shown indoor work such as prepping your round, and be shown the official way to deliver mail.Sime83 wrote:Hi everyone, I've just got a 25 hour contract for 6 months delivering at my local branch. Re: New Starter
Thanks, I'm quite looking forward to it - it's just strange not knowing exactly what to expect. It's a 9am to 2pm role, do you normally take longer delivering than sorting? On another note - what should I wear on the first day as I don't have a uniform yet.

Re: New Starter
9 till 2 sounds like a delivery only round
Not all offices operate this way and things are changing across the UK but in my office 9am starts do:
9 - 930 Tie Up (means getting the mail/parcels into delivery order) - Don't worry you will be shown.
930 - 945 - Travel to first delivery point.
945 - 1345 - Delivery (in there you take a 20 minute break which is paid)
1345 - Travel Back and return undeliverable items to office.
What to wear - depends on weather but shoes would be your most important consideration. Something comfortable with a lot of support for your arches and ankles.
Top - anything light and comfortable as long as its suitable - No foul language or political messages - remember you will be representing Royal Mail when you are working.
Trousers/Shorts - anything hard wearing but comfortable - not jeans though especially if rain is forecast, they are too heavy.
Light waterproof jacket you can put in your bag.
Take some water with you as well - in the current weather you will get thirsty.
