Re: hi all im new
Hello mate,
I started a month ago:
yes you do get paid for your induction day, i imagine they would keep you after the 3 months as long as you have not been a pain to them. It is a good job although reading the posts on here it seems to depend on what your office is like, i have been lucky the people i work with are spot on and i had a good workplace coach who i still see for advice if i have any questions. When i first started i thought there was no way i would ever be able to complete my round on time but believe me after a couple of weeks you will be there, just make sure you claim for any overtime you do (they tried to screw me out of some but make it clear that if you go over you expect to get paid), make sure you take your break, never go in early and do not use your car. You will find it a strange company to work for, even in my short time in the job i am amazed people using their own cars and going in early even i can see that they are just cutting down on jobs, if people did not use their own cars they would have to employ more people or pay more overtime. All in all i am enjoying the job and once you are out on your round and the sun is shining their are alot worse jobs you could be doing.
All the best

Re: hi all im new
Same here, i work 15 miles from where i live but you do not really need to know the area as the order you bag your mail up is a logical sequence and you just follow the mail if that makes sense. On your induction day it says to wear smart casual, i wore jeans shoes and short sleeved shirt and felt overdressed when is saw what some turned up in, just don't turn up in a shell suit and white trainers!, try and join the union soon as you can, i am trying to join but having emailed them a week ago to ask how much it is (i am on 25hr contract so imagine i pay reduced rate) have not received any reply but its good to have a bit of back up if it does go belly up. Hopefully you will be made welcome

Re: hi all im new
If you offer to work your day off they will usually take you up on it. Have not been in long enough to know the full score yet but there are a couple of lads at my place who seem to always be in on overtime, i reckon if RM let them they would bring sleeping bags in and kip there. I say its not a bad job mate but i wouldn't fancy doing 60hrs of it but each to their own. You should be ok in jeans/t-shirt/trainers for induction day

Midlands mate, not being more specific as big brother may be watching !!, wouldn't like anything i put on here to come back and bite me on the arse at a later date anyway good luck for when you start and let us know how you getting on, the first couple of weeks are hard but you get used to it and get alot faster so don't allow yourself to become disheartened when you start.

I'm some distance away but have heard they've got a very high turnover of managers there.

Interesting to read about leigh, in that he was so excited to start as a postie then after 3 weeks reality has set in and now realises it's sh@t, surprised it took 3 weeks
Hope you've got your uniform mate and that the 60 hours is just a nightmare now

Re: hi all im new
I started a month ago as a postwoman, loved the job but wanted to cry yesterday, is it siking in that the job is s**t? i think it might be. The managers in the delivery office do'nt give a s**t and have communication problems i.e they dont tell me anything except "get on top of your door 2 doors", "you need to speed up your delivery" etc. Everything i was told in my induction was bullshit. Coach? whats a coach. Health and Safety?? No safety equiptment issued, the brakes on the ww2 issue bike have never worked properly. Talk, listen and fix approach? Bollocks, these meetings are finished by the time i come in at 8am yet the WTLL meetings are supposed to be for everyone.
I realy enjoy the job once im out of the depot.
