Introduction

Post by thomas »

Hi everyone,

Start work with Royal Mail on Monday 9th Feb, part time, delivery's, 25 hours a week 0930 hrs to 1430 hrs, have received joining instructions for an 'induction day' on that monday at Manchester Mail centre, thereafter will be working Warrington.

Really looking forward to it, the hours suit me and I hear there may be a bit of flexibility! Certainly reckon the job will improve fitness levels given the amount of walking evident, should be right up my street!

Anyway I feel as if I need a holiday before I start, so I'm off on a climbing trip for a week in the Cairngorms this sunday brrr. freezing!

Quick Question before I go re. uniform I've been told you order it on the induction day...but in the info pack forwarded it stated you have to wear uniform when in contact with the public, presumably if I'm out with my 'coach' initially and i don't have Uniform (unless it's obtainable on that first induction day..) that rule can be varied and I can wear civvies?

Great Forum, very informative and helpful for us 'rookies.' Keep up the good work.

Welcome to RMCthomas :wave The only bit of uniform your gonna get mate is a hi- vis waistcoat,i may be wrong but it was only today i noticed a new entrant at our place with a full uniform on for the first time and hes been there 3 months.A worn in comfortable pair of shoes will also be wise.Enjoy the site and have a look in our Downloads forum in the Union room, theres a few bits in there for new entrants.

You will get whatever uniform you need on health and safety grounds when you start and everything else after about six weeks. You may think you're slower than others to start with but should soon get used to it all after a while. Good luck.

Hiya,

I joined RM 18months ago on 20hr contract and wore civvies for about three weeks. Was told i could not order wet weather gear until i had been in RM for six weeks. Shame when it rained avery day for two weeks from when i started. Once you get your uniform, you cant order any additional uniform for two years. Dont wash it too much. Oh, the boots are useless...slippery when wet, slippery on ice. Good lucj in your new job...you'll need it.
