Dover, Kent DO

Post by diggermatt »

Hi everyone :wave

Is there anyone who works in the Dover DO and would be willing to chat on DM? Thinking of applying for a Postie role, but interested in people's experience working there.

Thanks!

Don't do it unless you have exhausted every other avenue of employment.

Sadly I can’t give you any insights into Dover DO as I’m not based nearby. But ignore SkiSunday’s bad advice — he hasn’t worked as a postman for at least a year, if not more, and in fact bitterly regrets ever leaving, and that colours his viewpoint. It’s a decent job, well paid, but expect to work hard — and prob much harder than the longstanding staff. On that subject, be aware of the “them” and “us” factions that exist as a result of a two-tier workforce and the hostility that a quite small but vocal minority of legacy staff ooze.

I'm not sure I'd call the job well paid, just that there might be a chance to boost your wages if you are prepared to work over 40 hours a week and the OT is available at the Dover DO.

If you can get similar pay elsewhere and only want to work >40 hours I wouldn't bother, until there are clear signs the old and new contracts workers will be equalised.
