Hi all
I have been offered a job on a 26 hour permanent contract and at first i was very excited, and told everyone. However, I have been looking on this forum and looking at reviews online from ex workers and I feel sick with worry as they've made RM sound like an awful place to work. I just want to go to work, do the job, and come home. I've avoided office politics thus far in my working life and don't wish to be pushed around or anything now.
I am due to start in 2 weeks time
I am happy to do overtime but I don't want to be forced to do full time, I applied for part time for a reason. Does it happen often where you are contracted for X amount of hours but the week after they have given you more hours without asking?
Do I have to use my own car?? I planned to take the bus as the parking round the DO looks tight
I'm bloody terrified, I am tempted to withdraw my application but I don't know if I've just spooked myself by reading all that I have.
I have of course read a lot of good things too but somehow they don't outweigh the rubbish things I have read with nasty managers and pressure to do OT or coming back when the office is locked etc

Re: Job offer
It can depend on the office you work in.
No overtime is compulsory, but RM are known for making rounds far bigger than there is ever time for. You will be slow to start with and that should be allowed for.
Never ever use your own car on delivery! Not sure what you mean about using the bus other than commuting to and from work. You will either be on a delivery walking from the office, or in a van either solo or in a pair. But never ever use your own car on delivery or for any other RM purpose other than to and from your home and your regular office.

Bus wise I literally mean as a means to get to the office - not to do a round! Haha
But okay great, no car - noted. Good grief, I'm literally such an overthinker

Some managers may turn a blind eye to you using your car if it helps them, so just be aware of that
I'm an over thinker too so no worries.

Having been a casual for 5 months, Ive been working 43-46hr weeks 6/7 days a week since 1st November last year. Ive accepted a 16hr a week contract which starts next month. Im supposed to be doing 3 days a week, but I suspect it will be far more! Whilst I have found some of what Ive read on here to be reality, equally ive not found it as bad in my particular DO as the general picture on here paints! So you might be lucky and find its not too bad.

Re: Job offer
Did you have the option to do less hours than that though? Working 6/7 days sounds unreasonable to me, especially 7 days a week, you've got to have a break surely?!Norfolk 'N' Chance wrote: ↑24 Mar 2022, 08:41Throbobular wrote: ↑23 Mar 2022, 19:27Hi all

Re: Job offer
In answer to your question, no i wasnt forced and I could have said no. For me having been unemployed its been extremely useful to help me get back on my feet tbh. Now the nicer weather is starting i'll be happier if things drop to 16-20 hours as im not keen on 6/7 day weeks forever more.
