Post by Bainesy »

Hi all had my interview Tuesday got a call to offer me the job Friday :nana

First day is the 7th of Jan, looking forward to starting!

The threads on here that show interview questions really helped me in being prepared for the interview, just waiting to hear from my "on boarder"

You're joining up during "interesting" times. Keep popping in and appraising us of how things are going and we will do our best to help if any difficulties arise.
Best of luck.

This may not apply to you as you won't start until after Xmas but at the moment we have massive backlogs of mail in a lot of delivery offices caused by a combination of staff shortages due to covid, high levels of sickness absences, understaffing, an upswing in mail due to Xmas, new revisions to the way we work which has increased the workload beyond people's breaking point. Too many causes to name them all. GET TO KNOW YOUR UNION REP, JOIN THE UNION and don't believe everything the managers tell you. You have a start time, breaks and a finish time which despite what some screws (management) tell you, you do not have to work beyond unless it suits you. Keep a record of all your overtime (paid the next week) and don't work for free.
Don't be afraid to ask your colleagues and us lot here if you're not sure of something. All that being said once you figure out the best way to work that suits you, it's not a bad job when you're out delivering.

You may have to get yourself prepared to stand up to management. It is unfortunately very likely they will try to pressure you to work over your time and take benefit of you not taking your break in order to attempt to complete. This is the case in most offices, it happens a lot more often to new starters than more senior staff but it is not limited to only newbies.

Good luck. Your life at Royal Mail is very much dependent on what office you are going to work from. Keep it to yourself though, especially while posting here. Do not reveal too much about yourself.
