Are there any RM couples?

Post by wanjo »

Hi all,

I’m thinking of applying to become a Postie. My husband has been a Postie for about 12 years now. I need a change of scenery and love the idea of keeping fit whilst I work.

Are there many RM couples out there? How does it work with days off, holidays and long weekends? Can you sync them?

I would have to start as part time (30hrs initially). Is it right you don’t get long weekends as a part timer? 😫 What are the chances it would go to full time and how long does that take?

Any finally the pension, what do employees contribute % wise (I think hubby said 6%?) and what do RM contribute?

Cheers Jo.

Hi Jo,

I'm in operations e.g. I work in a mail centre.

There are many (I can think of 8 or so) couples working at my place - they mostly work together on the same shift pattern.
Mail centres are quite flexible not sure if delivery is the same.

Full-time hours depends on your luck in my experience - it's taken me 2 years to go full time.

Pension wise - contributions are less for the first year. I think I paid 5% and RM paid 3%.
I signed up straight away for the pension.
After 1 year RM contribute a lot more - there is a new pension scheme (CDC) looming so this will probably increase again.

Best of luck

Cheers,
Paul
