Romec cleaners vote in favour of productivity and bonus scheme

The consultative ballot on this year's productivity and bonus scheme for cleaners working in Romec closed yesterday (Monday) with 86 per cent of those members who voted voting in favour of the scheme.

The existing productivity and bonus scheme, which was protected until the end of June, was reviewed as part of last year's pay agreement.

Discussions between the union and the company regarding the new scheme focused on agreeing fresh criteria based on revised productivity standards. It had become apparent that cleaners working at some sites had been performing work beyond their responsibility.

Bob Gibson Bob Gibson, CWU national officer, led the difficult negotiations on behalf of the union: "Members have shown they are behind the new agreement. This is good news because the existing scheme saw some Romec Cleaners undertaking work they were not responsible for and not being able to complete tasks in the allocated hours, which was unacceptable and could not continue."

Bob explained the improvements to members of the new scheme: "Members will see that the new arrangements mean the terms of cleaners' bonus arrangements are much clearer. Cleaners should now know what they should and should not be doing and we are sure that this new scheme will remove any confusion."

Romec has been informed of the result of the consultative ballot.
