IMPORTANT INFORMATION- ROYAL MAIL - Preston Mail Centre

Post by mahrm1 »

Hi all,

A couple of friends were due to start at Preston Mail Centre on Monday 26th November on the 2-10pm shift as Royal Mail Christmas casuals.

One of my friends who works in that mail centre on that shift has heard repeatedly that 80x people have been withdrawn on that shift as Royal Mail Christmas casuals which were due to start on that date above.

I just thought I would let you all know as it’s pretty sh*t on Royal Mail doing that to all those people.

:thumbup

This was the email one of my friends got on Friday 23rd November from Royal Mail.

Dear candidate

Due to an unexpected drop in the forecast mail volumes we have been forced to reduce the number of casuals required to complete our Christmas operations. Unfortunately the shift on which you were offered a role has been withdrawn and we will not be able to offer you work in Preston this year.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and disappointment we know this will cause. The site has made attempts to contact everyone by telephone but they may not have been able to contact you. If you require any further information or clarification please contact

Royal Mail Preston bookroom on 01772 663264

Best Regards

So the RM are sufficiently psychic to be able to forecast volumes accurately for the forthcoming FOUR weeks?

Remarkable.

More likely that Brighton will do what they occasionally do - dump everything, UNSORTED, onto trucks and hope Gatwick MC will manage it for them.

Great cost-saving exercise. NOT

Probably a fair chance that Gatwick MC would just send it straight back, telling them to sort it

I feel sorry for the 80 who won’t have work.

Gatwick will just get in with it. They always do

Preston have recently taken on more work too, as they now handle the BL postcode area previously sorted at Manchester. They also sort all the second class packets from Carlisle. If anything I would have expected them to need more staff than usual this year.

My mistake. I thought it was Preston (Park) in Brighton, notvPR postcode.

I’m getting old.

Hi all,

Thanks to those who responded.

How do they work out the forecast mail volumes for the weeks ahead?

My friend said they currently have around 50x Christmas casuals in already on the 2-10pm shift will that be enough?

Also some of the managers not all of them speak to the casuals like sh*t telling them to like hurry up/speed up, when they are going as fast as they possibly can.

Is that also normal for the permanent workers to stop and chill whiles the casuals are conveying yorks in and out of the warehouse between 21:30-22:00?

By the way this mail centre is in Preston, Lancashire if you wasn't sure.

To be honest they can’t estimated figures on previous years intake.
online parcels up 6% this year at the mail letters were down. as for you other questions at my MC everyone pushes out mail staff and Angard have never seen it not happen we are in this s**t together to get it gone . Some managers are just arsholes under pressure from above if you see a problem go to a union rep or report it to the shift manager.
