This CCTV footage exposes the flaw in delivery companies' security protocols

A Kirklees home owner's hidden CCTV has exposed what could be the reason behind some parcels going missing in the run up to Christmas.

Paul Turner of Mirfield was confused when he received notification from Amazon that an item he had ordered for himself had been delivered.

The firm's delivery company had sent him a photo of the package being left in a 'safe spot' down the side of his property.

But when he went to retrieve it there was nothing there.

As the spot is hidden from view from passing thieves Paul became suspicious.

He reviewed his home security system and discovered the delivery driver's crafty trick.

It showed that after knocking on the door and looking through a window to see if anyone was home, the driver, who had his face covered, popped the parcel down to take a photo of it being delivered.

But after snapping the safe delivery and sending the notification message, he scooped it up again and took it away.

The incident has been reported to West Yorkshire Police and Amazon UK as Paul has footage of the driver's van.

With social media filled with people complaining about missing parcels Paul said he wanted to raise awareness of the scam some crooked delivery drivers may have come up with.

But he said this thief would have been disappointed as the package merely contained some heated socks worth only £40.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Kirklees Police have recorded an offence of theft and are investigating the matter."

Yorkshire Live asked Amazon UK if it was reviewing its policy of allowing parcels to be left outdoors.

A spokesperson said: “We have very high standards for our delivery service providers and how they serve customers. We are taking this matter seriously and have reached out to the customer to make this right.

"The delivery associate will no longer be delivering on behalf of Amazon.”
