Leading parcel delivery firm DPD has been named Service Provider of the Year at the Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards 2020.

Described as ‘the standout performer’, DPD scooped the top prize at the 12th annual awards, designed to recognise the most innovative developments in the postal and parcel industry. The award ceremony took place at Parcel+Post Expo Virtual Live event, on Tuesday October 13.

DPD UK won the Service Provider of the Year award ahead of an international shortlist including Australia Post, Omniva (Estonia Post) and LibanPost, the national post office of Lebanon. The judges praised DPD’s rapid growth and position as the go-to carrier for retailers who value a personalised home delivery experience. The award also acknowledged DPD UK’s Design Space, the in-app forum that consumers can join if they want to suggest, share and vote in polls on new ideas to improve the DPD experience.

The news comes less than a week after DPD won five Motor Transport Awards, including Customer Care, Home Delivery Operator and Urban Delivery Operator of the Year.

The Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards are judged by a panel of 20 senior international experts and other winners on the night included Swiss Post, Doddle and Bpost, the state-owned Belgian Post Group.

One of the judges, Andreja Bekavac, executive director for strategy and business development, Croatian Post, said, “The nominees presented various interesting ideas, innovative solutions and strategic approaches, which proved that the postal industry can successfully galvanize innovation and increase its digital economy to the next level.”

Dwain McDonald, DPD’s CEO commented, “I’m absolutely delighted with this win, in the face of some serious international competition. Our approach over the last 10 years has been to invest in technology and innovation to differentiate ourselves and give customers a genuine premium offer in the parcel space. It is fantastic to see other parcel groups around the world innovating and investing in new and different solutions, in a similar way.

“We have won a lot of awards recently and the recognition means a great deal to us. We will celebrate this with the whole team, but in our sector, you are always focusing on delivering the next day’s parcels! Due to Covid, and more people shopping online, that means continuing to manage a volume challenge, which we’ve been doing for most of this year. The whole team has performed incredibly so far. We’re in great shape. We have planned and invested more than ever for Peak this year and everything is in place and ready to go.”

Congratulations to them, it seems that we have to work harder to get to their level, even if RM has a 500 years old history...

We will never compete fully with them all the while we have USO around our necks and the regulator watching our every move.
