Australians can now purchase bitcoin and other cryptoassets through the country’s postal service.
According to a report by CoinDesk, Australia Post (AusPost) and Bitcoin.com.au have announced a collaborative effort to allow customers to purchase bitcoin in the country’s 3500+ post office shops. The initiative involves the use of the Post Billpay feature to purchase BTC and other crypto-assets.
The report claims the post will accept cash and card payments for digital currency purchases made through the cryptocurrency exchange Bitcoin.com.au.
Holger Arians, the exchange’s chief executive officer, said,
This is a major milestone for digital currency in Australia and around the world. It proves that there are established businesses and organizations that want to learn about new technologies by doing, and not by blocking.
Australia Post’s head of business and government financial services Susan Nicholson said the service was pleased to provide customers the ability to purchase bitcoin. She claimed in-office purchases would come with “product enhancement” that would offer customers ID verification and real-time bill payment confirmation.
