The Yodel HGV crashed into the bridge over Marsh House Lane shortly before 10pm yesterday, Thursday.

It had its roof torn off after the top of the vehicle was impacted, with debris strewn all over the road and police called to the scene.

Eyewitness Rita Matthias told the Warrington Guardian. “A yodel delivery lorry, filled with packages, hit the bridge on Marsh House Lane – the roof was torn off and the tailgate dragged along the road before coming to a stop.

“The warning signs for the height of the bridge are obviously not very well signposted.

“Lorries regularly turn around in the narrow streets approaching the bridge, which can be mighty dangerous for the lorry driver and other traffic.”

Cheshire Police have confirmed that nobody was injured, and that no arrests were made.

Network Rail were informed of the incident, and the road was reopened at around 2.30am today, Friday, after assessments were carried out.

Hear about this too often, metal barriers with rubber covering should be built of front of bridges to prevent it striking bridges and reduce damage to the the lorries as well as buses.

It's not that difficult.

No, you should be a competent driver. I'm class 1 and pcv qualified and anyway these vehicles are usually on set routes with known ridge heights except for roadworks diversions and that's when you need to watch out. Knowing yodel the driver was probably under pressure off the sack for failing time arrival. Safety means shite compared to profit.

Why doesn't this surprise me? I regularly have to put up with these yodel drivers (every day actually) they drive like their heads are on fire! I don't think they know what a red traffic light is or a local speed limit! Absolute morons! (And I'm talking about the hgv's)
