Sri Lanka Postal Services Union has decided to launch a 48-hour token strike from 4 pm today (16) over a number of unresolved issues.

The Convener of Postal Services Union Chinthaka Bandara says the union would resort to an indefinite strike if the government fails to provide solutions for their issues.

According to the trade union leader, the strike will be launched based on three demands including issues in recruitment, promotions, and salaries.

He said the Postal Services Ministry had compiled a cabinet paper to address the demands of employees, but it had not been approved even after the lapse of over 13 months.

The union demands the government to amend and approve the cabinet paper, abolish the program which plans to curb the rights of the postal employees and modernize the postal department.

Bandara noted that on 11th June 2018, the postal trade unions commenced a 16-day strike action. A Presidential Commission was set up to provide solutions for their issues. However, the recommendations set by the Commission were not implemented.

The postal employees therefore, will launch the strike action from 4pm today at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange and continue for 48 hours until 4pm on the 18th of July.
