GDPR rules bring down direct mail company

A Loughborough and Nottingham direct mail company has entered administration, with as many as 130 jobs set to be axed.

Sunline Direct Mail (SDM) had been trading since 1978 and had 130 employees. The business operated a mail division in Loughborough and a CYNC division in Nottingham. Services included mailing and polywrapping, data management, paper envelope enclosing, pick and pack and response handling.

The company has entered administration following an unsuccessful attempt to sell its business as a going concern earlier this month. SDM’s mailing division in Loughbourgh has ceased trading and the administrators from Moorfields Advisory are exploring the option to trade the CYNC division for a short period whilst existing customers transition to new logistics arrangements.

Simon Thomas, Moorfields Advisory partner, said: “It is unfortunate that we have been unable to find a buyer for Sunline Direct Limited. Unfortunately the rise in digital marketing and new legislation surrounding General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are likely to hinder a number of printing and data companies.

We will now facilitate the shutdown of the mailing division and explore a trade-out of the CYNC division.”
