Brazilian Postal Company's Workers on Strike

Brasilia, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) Employees of the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company keep today an indefinite strike to protest against the deterioration of their working conditions and the attempts of the government of Michel Temer to privatize the service.

According to a claim from the union, in recent years the authorities have cut some 850 billion dollars from the sector's budget, to which is added the intention of the company's management to close over 2,500 offices throughout the country.

On the other hand, the average salary of the mail servers is the lowest among state public companies.

The strike began last night after being approved in the assemblies of the unions affiliated to the National Federation of Workers in Post and Telegraph and Similar Companies (Fentect).

Employees also reject measures proposed by the government affecting their rights, such as the reduction of salaries in the administrative area, suspension of vacations and subcontracting in order to reduce costs.

The stoppage was also triggered by changes in the health plan, which will affect parents, children and spouses of the workers.
