ROBOT "postmen" could be delivering your parcels in future under a groundbreaking project planned by Amazon.
The tech giant has designed a US patent for small box-shaped droids which can pick up letters and packages from delivery trucks.
The “autonomous ground vehicles” (AGV) would be owned by a resident or a group of people in a neighbourhood.
One or two AGVs would meet drivers in the street and take the stuff to the home and have the ability to unlock doors while owners are out, meaning deliveries could happen at any time.
These delivery bots could have a touch-screen, a keypad and a scanner so the person receiving a package can talk to drivers and confirm their identity.
A robotic arm will lift the goods out of a storage compartment inside the house or flats before the device lets itself out.
The patent states: “An item may be received and delivered by an AGV without requiring a user to be at home.
“In addition, an AGV may receive and deliver an item when a user is busy or otherwise unavailable... on a phone call or sleeping.
“Items may also be received and delivered by AGVs at times that may be more conducive for deliveries, eg between 2am and 6am.”
The Standard reports that the compartment could be refrigerated for transporting groceries.
A similar scheme was developed by Starship Technologies which was trialled in Greenwich, London, to deliver groceries for Tesco and which have GPS technology.
After a successful trial, the supermarket managed to deliver a shopping order using a six-wheeled bot.
The genius machines have also trialled deliveries with takeaway firm JustEat and parcel courier Hermes.

Just watched the video. Only enough space for small packages or one medium sized parcel...

All this stuff is bollox.
There was some professor type on Radio Five Live a while back claiming that we're not that far off things like Westworld being a reality (for those who watched the show and know what I'm on about). I don't know about anybody else but I'm yet to an encounter any voice activation system be it on phones, gaming consoles or in cars that actually works properly let alone robots and god knows what else walking about and talking like humans and doing human jobs.

It's gonna happen I tells ya!
What we need to do is go to our bosses, ask for a 50% pay cut, give them our holidays , give our next born to them, ask said boss to contact you when he wants his arse wiped, work for free at the weekends...
I need to think of some more stuff to give them so these robots and self driving cars ect don't take over the world.Need more profit for the bosses.
I'm really worried, I really am.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
