Amazon tests two-man delivery in Germany

Amazon Logistics is becoming more and more sophisticated. The American company is now testing its two-man delivery service in Munich, which would mean it’s attacking Deutsche Post DHL and Hermes in just another business area. If the test becomes a success, Amazon could expand the service to other European countries, such as the United Kingdom.

Amazon already has its own delivery staff, leading to the American company being in fierce competition with logistics services such as DHL and Hermes. And now it’s also testing two-man delivery in Munich, as Logistik Watchblog writes.

Two-man delivery
Two-man delivery, sometimes also called ‘white glove service’, is often used for the delivery of large domestic appliances and furniture. Often these kinds of delivery people also help with the removal of packaging, the disposal of replaced items and the product assembly on site.

Amazon has confirmed it is testing the two-man delivery of major domestic appliances and furniture in Munich for several weeks now. Until recently, Hermes Einrichtungs Service and DHL Home Delivery were responsible for the delivery of such large items sold by Amazon. It’s the first time Amazon is testing the two-man delivery service in Europe and according to Bernd Schwenger, CEO of Amazon Logistics, the experience it gains with this will go back to other countries such as the UK.

At the moment, there are about 40 shipments a day from the distribution center in Olching (near Munich) that get the two-man delivery treatment. According to Schwenger, it’s especially challenging to take back old equipment, something Amazon does together with a recycling specialist.
