  • E-bikes replacing conventional cargo bikes, making work easier for mail carriers
Deutsche Post operates Germany's largest electric vehicle fleet with 2,500 StreetScooter "Work" trucks and 10,500 pedelecs
Local emissions target: 70 percent of last-mile delivery to be converted to clean solutions by 2025

http://www.dpdhl.com/content/dam/dpdhl/presse/img/2017/dpdhl-streetscooter-198.jpgDeutsche Post put the 1,000th e-bike from its StreetScooter subsidiary into service today in Osnabrück.

The electrically assisted cargo bikes, which reach 25 km/h and can carry up to 50 kg, are a tremendous help for letter carriers in urban areas. As they were for the "StreetScooter Work" electric delivery trucks, Deutsche Post letter carriers were also involved in the bike's development.

The result is an e-bike that is superior to typical e-bikes in many respects, including ergonomics, efficiency, load distribution and safety standards. For example, it can carry four mail crates instead of three.

The number of e-bikes in service will continue to increase in the years to come. In some delivery areas, Deutsche Post is testing StreetScooter's "e-trike" for mail delivery as well; it can carry up to 90 kg.

"We mean business with our climate protection campaign. We're very passionate about it," says Jürgen Gerdes, the Deutsche Post DHL Group board member responsible for Post - eCommerce - Parcel." And in addition to the benefits for the environment, our employees also benefit from using the most modern equipment."

Deutsche Post DHL Group already operates the largest electric vehicle fleet in Germany, with about 2,500 StreetScooter Work electric trucks and approximately 10,500 pedelecs (e-bikes and e-trikes); in the medium term, the company plans to replace its entire delivery fleet with electric vehicles.

The e-mobility campaign is part of Deutsche Post DHL Group's ambitious GoGreen environmental program, which aims to reduce the Group's net logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. On the way to that objective, one of the Group's four intermediate goals is to improve the quality of life for people at the local level by converting 70 percent of its pick-up and delivery activities to clean transport solutions such as bicycles and electric vehicles by 2025.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
