Giftbuyers have been left feeling frustrated after a number of Christmas packages have failed to arrive despite a courier company insisting they had.

People living in Cranbrook and Rolvenden have taken to social media to express outrage towards Hermes after presents failed to turn up when they were supposed to.

Self-employed builder, Brian Scott, contacted police after becoming suspicious when the tracker on his mobile phone indicated his packages were delivered to Benenden Primary School where his partner works at 7.00pm, after the school had closed, on Friday (December 9).

They were Christmas presents for his 13-year-old daughter.

Mr Scott said: "It does appear, from what people are posting, that Hermes are claiming to have delivered many parcels locally.

"The persons placing the orders have not received the goods or any notice about where they may have been delivered.

"Every single one of my packages seemed to arrive within an hour of each other at 8pm and delivered to my partner's place of work, a school in Benenden.

"According to tracking he delivered them to a school."

He added: "Some people can't afford to buy anything twice, for those people I am pushing it to the nth degree."

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "Kent Police has received a report stating a parcel was stolen from an address in The Green, Cranbrook, between midnight on 4 December and 7.41pm on 9 December 2016.

Another disgruntled Hermes customer is Lee Sharman from Hawkhurst.

'Everyone in the area seems to be having a problem'
Mr Sharman ordered football boots from a sportswear specialist on November 29. After receiving notice that they had been delivered, Lee is yet to receive his boots.

He said: "Everyone in the area seems to be having a problem, it's ridiculous.

"Basically I had an email saying it had been delivered at 2.50pm on my wife's day off but she was at home all day and they didn't.

"All it said was 'it has been left in a secure location'. My secure location is an outhouse but nothing had been left in there."

After a frustrated process in which he contacted the sports shop who said it will take 10 days for them to find out what has happened, Lee is still no closer to getting his package or a refund.

"The deadline for the refund passed yesterday which means I'll have to go back to them again myself, it's ridiculous."

Hermes delivers 245m parcels across the UK every year

A spokesman for Hermes said: "Recent heavy volumes have led to a small number of issues with deliveries in the Cranbrook area, which we have now resolved.

"In order to provide a better service across the region we have recently strengthened our local delivery proposition. We are currently investigating the deliveries intended for both Mr Scott and Mr Sharman.

"We are taking their claims very seriously and we apologise to all those affected in Cranbrook for any inconvenience caused.

"We deliver 245m parcels across the UK each year and the vast majority are delivered on time and without any problems."

Can I ask if anything has been done about this issue? I ask because we have had a lot of problems with Hermes (non arrival/ forged/no signature)
