INDEPENDENT postal service Yellow Jersey Delivery is going head-to-head with Royal Mail.

The city centre-based company, established in 2007, is extending its service from businesses to allowing members of the public to send letters to addresses in the city at a cheaper rate than Royal Mail.

In a scheme launching in the city centre, people will be able to send their mail for as little as 42p - saving 11p over the price of an equivalent Royal Mail stamp - operating from Hamiltons News on Trinity Street, The Little Shop on New Union St, and Coventry News and Booze on Market Way.

Since obtaining a Postal Licence in 2009 Yellow Jersey Delivery has over 120 local organisations on its books and handles more than 70,000 letters per month.

Director Jonathan Prime said: “We are repeatedly stopped by members of the public and asked how they can use our service.

“This will now be possible as we have convenient locations to which people can take their mail and pay for the service and from where we will collect their letters daily.”

Mr Prime said mail would be collected each working day and delivered within three working days of collection in the CV1 to CV6 area although the company was hoping to expand the service to other parts of the city.
