BERN, SWITZERLAND – Swiss Post is starting trials with two mobile phone providers to let customers pay for letters using their mobile phones. “A” priority letters will cost CHF1.20 with the new system, available for now only to customers of Swisscom and Sunrise, who are taking part in the trial.
There are two ways to buy the stamps:
you can send a message to the number 414 with the keyword STAMP and you will receive a code in return; the code must be written in the upper righthand corner of the letter you’re mailing
alternatively, download the Swiss Post smartphone app for Android to ask for codes; the iPhone version will soon be out.
In both cases, the cost is directly billed to your smartphone.
The 12-digit code is valid for one week.
The trial is scheduled to last one year before a decision is made to expand the service.
