Srinagar, Feb 11 (TruthDive): Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru‘s house today morning had a cemetery look, after a large hue and cry by family members when a postman on Monday carried a message to the family from the Superintendent Jail, Tihar Jail to inform about the execution on February 9, 2013, addressed in the name of Tabasum who had filed the mercy petition.

The letter that was addressed to Guru’s ancestral village carried the content that Guru’s mercy petition had been rejected and he will be executed on Saturday morning. The family, who initially refused to accept the letter, said that what was the need to deliver the letter after the execution has been carried out three days ago.

Despite strict curfew clamped in the area particularly around Afzal Guru’s house, the post man delivered the letter to the family where neighbours were also restricted from meeting the family. The delivery man parked his car at a distance and went walking to the house to hand over the letter to the family members of the convict.

Considering the late delivery of the letter to be a crude joke, the family said that it is like rubbing salt on their wounds. The family however has expressed their desire to offer prayers and perform the last rites at Afzal’s grave in Tihar jail and is waiting for the government to reply.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Monday condemned Afzal Guru’s execution saying that though it does not want to go into the details of the trial process, it expresses solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and disapproves the high-handedness of the Indian government holding back the ambition of the people by arresting and punishing them.

Afzal Guru, a former fruit merchant, and a membership of Jaish-e-Mohammed, was found to be guilty of arranging weapons for the attackers, both of which he had denied. Two other people SAR Geelani and Afsan Guru, who were also accused in the case, were acquitted owing to lack of evidence against them.
