I went to my next door neighbours house to attend to the needs of their bunny while they are on holiday - I am also collecting their mail from the locked porch and holding it for them. When I went into the area where the rabbit was I noticed that the plastic storage bin where all sorts of bits and pieces are stored was open to the rain. Propping up the lid was a large cardboard box with a Fed Ex label addressed to another house about 50 yards away and 10 digits different in house number. I thought that they had left it there obviously without asking permission as the owners are away - when I got the mail from the porch there was a Fed Ex card telling them that THEIR parcel was in a box in the rear garden - it wasn't theirs - the delivery person hadn't even got the address right and had left card and parcel in the wrong place.
This is not my first experience like this with other carriers - the only time I have an easy mind about something that I am having delivered is when the despatch advice says - "Delivery by Royal Mail"

I see packets doorstepped at the wrong address by couriers all the time and the occasional RM one by some of the runners in the office

Re: You have to admire the opposition
Working for the opposition is a world away from working for the Royal Mail, though regretably that will all change when this dreadful privatisation goes through. You fly by the seat of your pants with our so-called competitors, do this do that and so on and so forth. They really do expect more for less.
Of course, some of this has crept into the Royal Mail but ours is still the best Mail service in the world. What a great shame the likes of Moya Greene and the layers of shocking management which hinder this organisation do not think the same way. Too busy with their heads in the trough and no pride in the Royal Mail as what it should be, a PUBLIC SERVICE, nothing more, nothing less, distinctive from the rest and a great place to be.
