UK Mail donates £83,000 to Birmingham branch of Cancer Research UK

SCIENTISTS at Birmingham’s Cancer Research UK centre have received a special delivery of £83,083 from a parcel company.

UK Mail raised the staggering amount over a year and handed it to the charity’s labs at the University of Birmingham.

The money was raised after Birmingham-based UK Mail picked Cancer Research UK as their chosen charity for the year.

The company pledged to double the amount of money employees gained through their own fund-raising initiatives.


The payroll lottery scheme was another method and a whopping £77,461 came from UK Mail’s ‘penny per consignment’ scheme where 1p is donated to the charity from every direct debit customer who sends a consignment.

Professor Nick James, who works on research into bladder cancer at the centre, said: “We are extremely grateful to UK Mail staff and customers for raising such a large amount for Cancer Research UK."

Just think if royal Mail donated 1p for each letter handled Barnardos would hardly know what to do with £275,000,000 a year.
