Jan 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Postal and Telecommunication Services Union Chairman Chinthaka Bandara says that the employees of the Postal Department will hold a sitting-in protest campaign outside the Central Mail Exchange Monday afternoon.
The protesting employees are to march to the Presidential Secretariat later to hand over a petition to the President demanding the removal of the Post Master General.
The Secretary of the Ministry of State Administration P.B. Abeykoon recently said that the charge sheet against the Post Master General D.M.K. Dissanayake had been handed over to the Ministry of Posts.
The Post Master General was to be formally charged although he had threatened to initiate fundamental rights actions if he is removed from the post.
The charge sheet contains 16 counts against the Post Master General. The charges are based on the final report of the three-member committee appointed by the Ministry of Postal Services to probe the conduct of the Post Master General.
Trade unions held a string of protests against the Post Master General and urged the government to remove him from the post.
