CEBU CITY, August 5 (PIA) -- The Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) will soon introduce new mail services such as electronic business mail and electronic money transfer in order to cater to the needs of people using new technologies.

Philpost director of operations Benito Quiros said during the weekly AGIO-7 Forum that personal communications have decreased to 10-15 percent in volume due to the trend in social networking while the business mails continue to increase such as the billing collection and delivery of goods.

In Cebu City, philpost installed 10 post offices and an extension office at the Gaisano Country Mall that is open even on Saturdays and Sundays, Quiros continued.

Mail and More is also authorized by the Philpost as one of the postal outlets in Cebu.

Quiros also explained to the media that in some instances it takes weeks for letters to reach to their destinations because of insufficient addresses.

Philpost will always attempt to locate the exact address for three consecutive times before giving up and sending back the letters to its original sender.

Quiros said, "remember, a postman delivers at least 300 letters in one day and in Central Visayas, there are only 600 personnel working at the Philpost."

“Ordinary mails will only take 96 hours to be delivered within Metro Cebu,” Quiros added.

Quiros also bared that as of January – June 2011, there are 35 formal complaints with various cases filed at the regional office against employees and or services of Philpost which are attended to immediately.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Postal District Manager Jocelyn Agravante said they continue to process postal ID’s in their office and the card costs P288 if availed within a week, but if it is for delivery, Philpost charges P488 and can be delivered within three days. (PIA-7/mbcn/hfg & PhilPost)
