Apr 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Postal Department trade union sources say that around 50,000 letters are stuck in the Central Mail Exchange each day as a result of failing to sort and deliver.
These letters are a part of more than a million letters that go through the Central Mail Exchange every day.
The trade unions say that the reason for this is the shortage of postal workers. Central Mail Exchange runs its normal services through overtime work by the employees.
Meanwhile, the secretary of the Sri Lanka Postal and Telecommunication Employees' Union Chinthaka Bandara said that they were waiting for the result of the probe to be continued by a three-member committee appointed by the Minister of Postal Services to investigate the allegations against the Post Master General.
The union official warned the committee not to waste time and demanded the authorities to grant remedies to the problems in the postal service immediately or to face another trade union action.
