Employees of the Ministry of Postal and Telecommunications assigned to the ministry's offices in northern Nimba County yesterday staged a protest action in demand of salaries. Some contended that since they were assigned to the office, they are yet to get their official letters of employment from the Ministry. Our Nimba County correspondent in the county said the postal workers are claiming that since they started working for the ministry in that part of the country for the past several years, incentives provided them are little and worse of all it has not been paid to them on time. They said the failure to get their payment on time, coupled with the scanty amount is indeed posing a serious problem for them in meeting the daily needs of their families.

The postal employees expressed disappointment over the failure of the ministry to live up to its side of the agreement reached with them, stressing that despite the agreement the ministry has chosen not to pay them what is due them after three years of service. They then wondered why the operation of running the ministry's sub-offices is included in the ministry's budget while the staffers assigned to some of these sub-offices in the county are not feeling the direct impact.

They vowed not to go to work until what is due them is paid in full by the ministry. When the Police Affairs Chief at the ministry M. Leisole, was contacted on the issue, he admitted there are indeed some problems associated with the postal service operation in that part of the country but declined to comment further on the issue on grounds that he was on leave.

He, however, referred this paper to his Assistant, who he said will comment on the issue in detail. When this paper contact Mr. Leisole's assistant, his phone rang endlessly as he could not be reached up to press time.
