The U.S. Postal Service said Friday its is holding mail bound for Egypt and suspended global express guaranteed service to the country beset by political unrest because of lack of necessary transportation.
Egypt has been in upheaval from massive street protests calling for the ouster of longtime President Hosni Mubarak for more than a week.
U.S. post offices are holding international mail to Egypt until that service can resume. Global express guaranteed items are being returned to senders, with postage fees refunded on request. Any global express guaranteed items already on their way to Egypt are being held at international airports.
Global express guaranteed is the premium international shipping option from the U.S. Postal Service with international transportation and delivery by FedEx Corp.
