PARIS (Dow Jones)--The French government Wednesday confirmed it is investing EUR2.7 billion in the French postal services provider La Poste in partnership with its investment arm, Caisse des Depots et Consignations, or CDC, ahead of the liberalization of the postal market this year.
The plans, which were first laid out in October last year, have been finalized and will be signed in the coming days, the French finance minister's office and the CDC said in an emailed statement.
The capital injection from the state, a move to help La Poste modernize its services as the European postal sector opens up to competition, will take place in three installments: EUR1.05 billion in 2011, EUR1.05 billion in 2012 and EUR600 million in in 2013.
La Poste will hold a board meeting in the coming days to schedule a general assembly meeting next month in order to examine the plans.
