Package explodes at Swedish post office

STOCKHOLM: A package exploded at a post office in central Sweden on Wednesday causing no injuries, police said, adding that six people had been sent to the hospital after they were covered in smoke and dust.

“All we know is that there is a package that has exploded,” said Sven Ake Petters, a spokesman for the regional police in Dalarna.

The explosion happened at around 8:20am (0720 GMT) at the post distribution centre in the small town of Borlaenge, when nearly 30 people were in the building.

“This package exploded, but no one was injured,” Petters said, adding, “six people standing nearby are being checked after they were covered in smoke and some kind of dust.”

He said bomb specialists would analyse the package and determine what had been inside.

“Right now, we have no idea what it was,” Petters said, stressing there were no known threats against the post office. afp
