Deutsche Post AG is considering further cost cuts due to continued volume declines at its letter business, Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung said, citing Chief Executive Officer Frank Appel.

Market conditions have continued to worsen and pressure from lower-wage paying competitors is increasing, the newspaper said in an article to be published today, citing Appel.

Deutsche Post, based in Bonn, is in favor of a postage increase to make up for a decline in volume of letter mailings, the newspapers said, citing Appel.
