CUPW fears further postal liberalisation through the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

Canada and the EU have been negotiating a free trade agreement in the past months. Such a trade agreements represent a serious risk to public services such as postal services since they act as a Trojan Horse when it comes to liberalisation or privatisation of these service. CETA is no exception and goes even further than WTO negotiations or NAFTA.

As reported by CUPW and UNI earlier on this year, postal services are under threat of liberalisation through CETA. http://www.uniglobalunion.org/Apps/ipor ... 0D0074C102" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

CUPW National President, Denis Lemelin, has just written to Steve Verheul, CETA Chief Negotiator for Canada, asking for more information on the provisions dealing with postal services. A copy of this letter may be found here:

CETA is also a threat to the provision of other public services such as water or public healthcare, but also to the environment, job creations and democratic rights. The Canadian Trade Justice Network has just released this small comic, illustrating such issues:
