Postal Service releases USPS Mobile iPhone app

The United States Postal Service has created and released the USPS Mobile iPhone app. Using a Wi-Fi or 3G connection, the free USPS Mobile app allows St. Louis-area iPhone and iPod Touch users (and those nationwide) to access Postal Service information on the go. The USPS Mobile app offers several useful and time-saving features.

Select the Locations function and the app can use GPS functionality to direct you to the nearest Post Office, Automated Postal Center (APC), or mail collection box. To help you get there, the app can show you a map indicating locations, and provide you with walking, driving, or even transit directions. If you need to know USPS locations in a city other than where you're at, it can do that too!

Need to know a zip code? Select ZIP Codes and you can find out the zip code of your current location or for any address in the United States.

Package tracking is another useful feature of USPS Mobile. Launch the app, click Track, and up-to-date information is available on packages you have mailed or that are being shipped to you. This feature allows you to track Express Mail packages and envelopes as they travel through the postal system.
You can also get status information on other mail pieces with special services such as Delivery Confirmation, Signature Confirmation, and Certified Mail. The progressive status bar can show you that a mailpiece was accepted by the USPS, is in transit, or has been delivered to the intended destination. A convenient feature of this function is that you only have to input the Postal Service item number once, no matter how many times you search it. The application remembers the number, saving you from having to input it each time you check for a delivery update. That's good, since the item numbers are often 20 digits long!

The USPS Mobile app is convenient and easy to use, and is available now as a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store.
