A global shipping company has announced its plans to shut down its Liverpool depot, putting 56 employees at risk. DHL Express, which operates a depot in Estuary Commerce Park in Speke, will be moving its Liverpool services to other sites following a "network reconfiguration" and investment.
A spokesperson for DHL Express said: "As a result of network reconfiguration, we have taken the decision to close our site in Liverpool. Our capacity and recent investment in neighbouring sites mean we have the capability to continue serving the local area and supporting our customers without disruption.
"While 56 operational staff are impacted, we are working closely with affected colleagues to explore redeployment opportunities and hope to keep as many people as possible within our business and across the DHL Group."
They added that the Speke depot will be closing on a date this April. Following this, Liverpool will be served by other sites.
DHL Express operates over 1,600 DHL Service Points in high streets and retail outlets across the UK. Following the closure of the Speke depot, the closest service centres will be found in Chester and Altrincham, Manchester.
DHL is currently the world’s leading logistics company, employing around 600,000 people in over 220 countries and territories. DHL Express specialised in international express shipping, for customers looking to ship items abroad in good time.
