What are "Self Maintained Holding"

Just had a look in my Equiniti account and it says I have Royal Mail shares held in my Self Maintained Holdings.

I have never noticed these before.

Does anybody know what these are ??

Do you buy extra shares through partnership and matching?
It might be your next lot of shares
