Subject to shareholder approval, a final dividend will be paid on 31 July 2015

The Board has recommended a final dividend of 14.3 pence per share. This means eligible full-time employees with 729 Free Shares will receive around £104 as a final dividend payment on 31 July 2015. They will have received around £152 in dividends for 2014-15*.

Eligible part-time employees will receive a dividend based on their pro-rata allocation of Free Shares.

Dividends since privatisation

By 31 July 2015, eligible full-time employees with 729 Free Shares will have received around £248 in dividends since privatisation.**

Incentive plan payment

CWU-grade employees will receive a payment because the profit gateway as part of the 2014-15 incentive plan was achieved. The amount will be confirmed shortly.

This will be paid in June.

*Based on final dividend payment of 14.3 pence per share to be paid on 31 July 2015, subject to shareholder approval, and maiden interim dividend payment of 6.7 pence per share for 2014-15.

** Eligible full-time employees received around £96 on 31 July 2014; around £48 on 14 January 2015; and, subject to shareholder approval, will receive around £104 on 31 July 2015. Eligible part-time employees will also have received dividend payments on these dates, and are due to receive the final dividend for 2014-15 on 31 July 2015, subject to shareholder approval.

The Board is recommending a final dividend of 14.3 pence per ordinary share. Including the interim dividend of 6.7 pence per ordinary share, this represents a total dividend of 21.0 pence per share for 2014-15, up five per cent over the notional 2013-14 full year dividend of 20.0 pence.

Call me stupid but not all at the same time please.

How can this be a final dividend? Surely final means last, thought shareholders got them at least annually.

Most PLC's will pay two dividends annually. An interim dividend halfway through the financial year and a final dividend paid at the end of the financial year. The final dividend is usually the larger of the two payments.

It's kinda like the X-Factor final. It's never the last-ever one. Unfortunately, in the case of the "make Simon Cowell some more money" garbage :whistle

Also just read they are reallocating the shares from all the bad leavers since privatisation. This means we are to receive another 4 shares each

Oooh! Where did you read that??? Okay, 4 extra shares each isn't exactly wildly exciting but even though there'll be another 3/5 year clock running on keeping them every little helps ...

Can anyone explain the income tax situation regarding share dividends?

I've just received a consolidated tax certificate for my shares which seems to suggest I'm paying 10% income tax on the gross divi

However I believe there is a 10% tax credit... is this added first to give the gross divi income and then taken away again as 10% income tax?

Basically the figures are...

gross income - £220
net income - £200
uk tax/tax credit - £20

Is the £220 figure including the 10% tax credit?

Taken from this website: http://www.inniaccounts.co.uk/faq/what- ... x-credits/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dividends are paid out of company profits on which the company has already paid or is due to pay Corporation Tax. The tax credit accounts for this and is available to the shareholder to offset against any Income Tax that may be due on their dividend income.

How the dividend tax credits are calculated
The dividends you receive represent 90% of your ‘dividend income’. The remaining 10 per cent of the dividend income is made up of the tax credit. For example if you receive £90 in dividends, the tax credit is £10 meaning your ‘dividend income’ is £100. This can be seen on your dividend vouchers.

Calculating your personal tax on dividend income
If you are a basic rate tax payer you have no tax to pay on your dividend income because the tax liability is 10% which is the same amount as the tax credit.

If you are a higher rate tax payer you pay 32.5% tax on your dividend income inclusive of the tax credit where this falls above the basic rate tax threshold. However, after accounting for the dividend tax credit you only actually pay 25% of the dividend paid to you.

Self Assessment
When calculating your overall taxable income you need to include your dividend income, salary plus any other income you have or will receive during the tax year, e.g. rental income, bank interest etc.

When your self assessment tax return is completed, your overall taxable income needs to be assessed then any further tax due for the year is calculated. On any dividends received, if you are a basic rate tax payer then no additional tax will be due as this is negated by the tax credit. If you pay tax at the higher rate this will be at 32.5% of the gross dividend which is then reduced by the tax credit, meaning you will need to pay additional tax at an effective rate of 25%.

Can I claim the tax credit?
You can’t claim the 10% tax credit even if your taxable income for the tax year is less than your personal tax free allowance for the year. This is because income tax hasn’t been deducted from the dividends you have been paid, you have simply been given a tax credit against any income tax due.

Thanks for that Robert, so I think I'm right in saying that as a lower rate tax payer the 10% tax credit gets automatically added to my my gross divi amount... then I get charged 10% income tax to have it taken away again!
