You could ask, but I believe you'd be told no.

No. You'd still have to wait the three or five years. You need to be an employee of RM in three years time unless you retire or other exceptional circumstances.

Re: shares
If you took a career break you would still be employed by the company, therefore you would not be entitled to the 'free shares' until the three years were up.

As long as it's after the 3 year period, I'd say yes.coolasluck wrote:I think that came out wrong![]()

As long as you meet the criteria required, you can do this.
A call to HR might be of help.

Re: shares
I suspect you would have to return to work for a period first (I presume you are leaving in a year but want to keep your shares?)

Re: shares
A lot of people in closing mail centrea are getting EVR and will be able to get 612 shares when they leave, its all allowed in the issue. Trouble is because we are only allowed £3,000 of "free" shares in any year the other 112 will be issued after 5 April 2014. This means for those leaving before this date will lose those shares and it was never mentioned in the share issue about adding yet another "qualifying day " to the two they already had.

Re: shares
The only reason they had to 'add another qualifying day', as you wrongly put it, is because the soaring share price (489p) on October 15th meant that the 725 shares they intended to allocate to full-timers were valued at well over £3000. HM Revenue and Customs rules do not permit more than £3000 of free shares being allocated in any single tax year, so they split the allocation into two tax years, delaying the issuing of the 112 shares by just under 6 months.End of the road wrote:A lot of people in closing mail centrea are getting EVR and will be able to get 612 shares when they leave, its all allowed in the issue. If the share price had only risen to 413p on October 15th, you would of course have received all 725 shares in one go.
But think on this...
Two weeks have passed since the allocation date. The share price now stands 55.5p higher than it did then, a rise of 11.35%.
If the price had been low enough (413p) to receive all 725 shares in one go, and had since risen by 11.35%, the share price would tonight be around 460p.
A person leaving tomorrow would thus be able to sell their shares, and receive 725 x 460p ... i.e. £3335
As things stand, however, they will actually have 613 shares x 534.5p ... i.e £3276.48
A difference of just shy of £59

Mind you, it's still £1000 more than we, and the Government, were expecting so no one can really complain about that, especially as under the terms of EVR the £3000 is still valid even to people who will no longer be RM staff.
On a broader note, the 'delay' in receiving the additional 112 shares is paradoxically 'good news', as it means the overall value to staff is much better than expected.
